A recent article on this page explored the relevance of video games and interactive media and mentioned that some bring out some deep ideas, Metal Gear Solid was used as the example.

The MGS series definitely has some heavy content (especially the 3rd installment...though the second one is pretty much guaranteed to mess with your head)

I'd like to discuss other games that go deeper. A favourite of mine is actually a first-person shooter, Deuce Ex. It starts off like any other FPS but man, the turns it takes. I can't even imagine the amount of research that went into making it, bringing the Illuminati and the Knight's Templar and a lot of philosophical ideas...particularly a hidden portion where the main character debates God with an advanced AI computer.

I also love how J.C. Denton starts off as a mindless drone, then somewhere in Hong Kong gradually starts becoming more human.

Then we have the Final Fantasy series which can also get deep at times, despite sticking to tried and true formulas.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a discussion, not a dissertation...so what games do you guys find go deeper than just stomping Goombas and shooting aliens?
