Just a day after Phil Harrison resigned as President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios the company has rebounded substantially and has given the public a glimpse of some of its newest gadgets.
Sony fans can expect a new PSP bundle in June. The company has done well with marketing bundles of the portable system in recent months. The Daxter bundle, which includes a slim silver PSP, memory card, Family Guy UMD and Daxter has sold 2 million copies since its release, an impressive figure for a portable system according to a press release on the Ready at Dawn website.
Similar bundles have done well too. The Star Wars bundle featuring the Slim PSP in ceramic white comes with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and a black Darth Vader silkscreen on the back. Even a less then obsessive fan of the films can admit the PSP looks pretty cool with Darth Vader sitting on it.
The bundle set to be released in June has a God of War theme. It will feature a special edition red PSP with a silver Kratos silkscreen on the back. A copy of Chains of Olympus and a Superbad UMD will be included. There is no definitive date but June seems to be more or less set in stone according to a blog post on Kotaku.
The article at Kotaku “First Look at God of War Special Edition PSP” also has official pictures of the new device, and it is gorgeous. Japan apparently has a red PSP but it’s not nearly as red as this one. It may make some who bought the silver weep it’s so nice.
Sony also dropped news today that they will be releasing a PS3 bundle to coincide with the North American release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Videos for the game have been floating around for months and it’s easily one of the most anticipated games of the year.
In Q2 of 2008 Sony will introduce a bundle that will include an 80 GB ps3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and the much talked about Dual Shock 3 controller. The bundle has a price tag of $499 according to an article at N4G.com. The 80 GB alone was selling for $499 while the current 40 GB model has a $399 price tag. The 80gb will maintain backwards compatibility unlike the current 40 GB version. Throw in a highly anticipated $60 game and the controller and it’s a pretty good deal.
The Dualshock 3 will be available for separate purchase around the same time at a price tag of $54.99. The Dualshock 3 has all the features of the SIXAXIS controller along with the much whined about rumble feature According to “New PS3 Bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4 in Q2”, a blog posted today at Themanroom.com.
There is still no official word from Sony about the rumored SKUs of the PS3. As early as December bloggers were discussing the potential of a ceramic white PS3 coming to U.S shores. More recently rumors have been flying around about a 120 or 160 GB version of the game. No official information has been released but Sony seems to becoming a bit more lenient in sharing news in recent days so there still is hope for official announcements regarding these speculations. The original 80 GB has disappeared from most stores and the sony website, further fueling new SKU rumors.
